1909    First Hudson—Model 20—introduced.

1912 

Joseph L. Hudson dies.

1916  Hudson Super Six introduced.
 
1917  First Essex (a 1919 model) introduced as companion car to Hudson - an inexpensive, high performance (for the time)—55hp.
 
1922  Essex a closed car for only more than a touring car—by 1925 the coach was less.
 
1930  First Hudson 8.
 
1932 

Essex becomes Essex Terraplane.

1933  Essex name dropped, Terraplane gets the Hudson 8—the high power to weight ratio produces sensational performance and speed records.
 
1936  President Roy D. Chapin dies.
 
1937 

Terraplane phased out.

1947 

Step-down design used on Hudson.

1953 

Hudson Jet compact introduced. This model’s disappointing sales convinces Hudson that a merger is necessary; Some Hudsons equipped for “severe usage” develop 200 hp and dominate stock car racing.
