Grades 4-12 Education Programs

Cruising Through Time and Exploring Automotive Careers

Cruising Through Time - Grades 4 - 6

In addition to exploring Chrysler's unique automotive heritage, this updated and enhanced program provides students the opportunity to discover their skills set and the value of teamwork as they build race cars, just like the legendary RAMCHARGERS team. Pre- and post-visit cross-curricular activities extend field trip-related concepts to the classroom.

The Cruising Through Time lesson unit:

  • is aligned with the Michigan Department of Education Grade Level Content Expectations (GLCEs)
  • reflects brain-based learning research and best teaching practices
  • contains thematic activities that include language arts, math, science and social studies
  • reinforces skills and strategies students need to be more successful on the MEAP tests
  • introduces students to automotive-related careers
  • contains activities from the ROCK U.S.A.™ 7-24-21-5™ Program, which introduces students to basic employability skills needed to be successful in any career

Cruising Through Time activities at the Museum include inquiry-based activities and hands-on demonstrations designed to promote students' awareness and understanding of:

  • simple machines
  • automotive-related words and parts of a car
  • innovations, engineering and design firsts that changed automotive history
  • automotive-related career
  • teamwork and collaboration

Student pages and activities:

  • can be used as pre- and post-field trip lessons or independent of the Museum experience to help students learn more about the social and historical changes brought about by the automobile and enhance students' understanding of the many people, processes and parts it takes to make a car

Exploring Automotive Careers, Changes and Challenges - Grades 7+

Using examples from Chrysler's heritage, this program highlights how streamlining in the 1930s, downsizing in the 1970s and today's search for energy alternatives have brought new and unexpected jobs to the automotive workforce. A tour through the Museum focuses on critical-thinking exercises that help students explore their own career preferences.

Student activities before the Museum visit include:

  • exploring Michigan's Six Career Pathways
  • completing lessons and projects in the ROCK U.S.A™ 7-24-21-5™ Career Education Program dealing with basic employability skills
  • completing a Personal Interest Inventory
  • completing an Anticipation Guide before viewing the Museum's three background videos

Student activities during the Museum visit include:

  • participating in a presentation by an automotive representative outlining various career opportunities, the skills needed and education necessary for success in the 21st century
  • participating in hands-on demonstrations to observe, explore and construct new knowledge about automotive careers
  • developing an awareness of the social, cultural and economic impact of the automobile

Student activities following the Museum visit include:

  • exploring career pathways based on students' personal pre-visit inventories and researching the skills and education required for success in a given field
  • discussing automotive careers highlighted during the Museum visit, as well as the skills necessary for each career
